FREE Monotype Workshop
The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University will be sponsoring a FREE Monotype Workshop on Saturday July 31, from 9am-12noon with guest artist EA Meuser, a Kentucky artist and Ohio native. Meuser’s artwork will be featured in an exhibition at the Coburn Gallery in conjunction with the MFA Creative Writing Summer Program which opens on Sunday July 25, 2010. AU Art Professor Keith Dull will also be participating in the workshop.
The workshop will feature monotype printmaking techniques that are easy to learn and allow for a lot of creativity. Monotype printmaking is a painterly method where you create one of a kind prints that have a unique translucency that creates a interesting quality of light.
The event with be held in Center for the Arts room 345 and is free and open to the public for persons 16 and over. All art materials provided. For more information or for registration call 419.289.562 or email coburngallery@ashland.edu.

Ode to Degas Nationall Juried Exhibition
The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University will hold a national juried exhibition titled “Ode to Degas.” The exhibition opens with a reception on Friday, May 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. and will run through June 18. Admission to this family friendly exhibition is free and open to the public.
The opening reception coincides with the 28th Annual Spring Dance Concert presented by Opus II Dance Studio, which features the Ashland Regional Ballet in the Hugo Young Theatre.
This exhibition is a collection of works that embody the concepts of movement explored by Edgar Degas, most specifically in his dancers. The exhibition features 21 artworks from artists across the United States selected by juror Neil MacDonald, who lives and works in Stow, Ohio. MacDonald studied and received a MFA in painting from Kent State University and a BFA in painting from Cleveland Institute of Art.
“I am very excited about this exhibition not only because it showcases the talents of visual artists from across the country but because it also celebrates the fine arts, more specifically dance in the Ashland, said Cynthia Petry, director of the Coburn Gallery. “We are very lucky to have many different dance opportunities for children in our community. Ode to Degas should inspire young visual artists and dancers alike.”
Exhibiting artists include Sallie Poet, Utah; Pam Adams, Ohio; Phil Napala, Virginia; Gadi Zamir, Ohio; Nicole McCormick, Virginia; Michael Marling de Cuellar, Georgia; George Kocar, Ohio; Will Reed, New York; Kasumi, Ohio; Mikhail Gubin, New York; Leo Mazzeo, Massachusetts; Cheri Homaee, Ohio; and Eliana Call-Saari, Ohio.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

DEADLINE EXTENDED-Ode to Degas
DEADLINE EXTENDED.The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University announces a national juried exhibition entitled Ode to Degas. This exhibition will culminate in a collection of works that embody the concepts of movement explored by Edgar Degas, most specifically in his dancers. Figurative work both contemporary and traditional approaches welcome. $500.00 in AWARDS. Open to artists at least 18 years of age residing in the United States. Works in any media accepted including photography. A maximum of two entries for $20.00 are allowed per artist. Deadline extended-All entries must be postmarked by April 1, 2010. The Juried Student Art Exhibition Opens Tomorrow- TH Feb 25th at 4:30pm. Awards announced at 5pm. NEW for 2010 AU Art Club will be offering the Peoples Choice Award. AU Juried Student Art Exhibition 2010
The Coburn Art Gallery presents the 2010 AU Juried Student Art Exhibition.
The exhibition opens Thursday Feb 25th with a reception from 4:30pm-6:00pm.
This exhibition will offer $1300.00 in awards to students- including Best in Show, Caldy Award, Provost Award and awards in each of the art areas. The Awards Ceremony will begin at 5:00pm.
