AU High School Art + Design Experience-Free Event

  

The Ashland University Art and Design Department is offering a free college campus studio experience on Saturday, February 26, 2022 for current high school students with an interest in pursuing art. The event is being held in the Center for the Arts building on the AU campus from 9:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with lunch and all art materials provided.  

Art studio area experiences will include sculpture, printmaking, digital art and graphic design, painting, ceramics and figure drawing. Students may attend two workshops based on their interests and availability. This event highlights the Art and Design program, where students can learn from experienced college instructors who also are working artists, meet other students with a serious interest in art, learn or finesse existing skills, investigate a new medium or area, experience a classroom studio work environment and learn about what art and design students do after graduation.

Senior Art Exhibition Opens November 18th

 

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University will be hosting a month-long “Senior Art + Design Exhibition” Thursday, Nov. 18-Saturday, Dec. 18, featuring the capstone experience for graduating art students Ricki Dénes and Alexis Stanley. On Nov. 18, there will be an opening reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m., at the gallery, located in the Center for the Arts on the AU campus. This event is free and open to the public.

“While the 2021 ‘Senior Art + Design Exhibition’ provides the capstone experience for graduating art majors, it represents more than just students’ studio art experiences,” said Cynthia Petry, director of the Coburn Gallery. “For the student in the liberal arts, the exhibition is the culmination of their undergraduate career at Ashland University.”

This fall’s exhibition includes paintings, illustrations, printmaking and ceramics from Dénes and Stanley.

Stanley, from Frazeysburg, Ohio, is set to complete a bachelor’s degree in art education with a concentration in ceramics and a minor in art history. At Ashland, she has been a three-year executive member of art club, including serving as president for one and a half years. She also was a gallery assistant, an art camp counselor, an intern for the Salvation Army and a carpenter and designer for two theater projects. She is a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society and has participated in three juried student art exhibitions. Stanley plans to begin her career as an art teacher following graduation and also would like to open her own gallery.

Dénes will graduate with a bachelor of education degree in art and a bachelor of fine arts with a printmaking concentration. She minored in illustration and Spanish. A native of Columbus, Ohio, Dénes has worked as an art history and Spanish tutor at Ashland and has been part of art club every year, serving stints as president and treasurer. Her artwork has been displayed in the Student Juried Exhibition four years in a row, winning awards twice, and was inducted into the Phi Sigma Iota honor society (foreign language).

The Coburn Gallery is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays and noon-4 p.m. on weekends. Gallery admission is free and open to the public. Currently, face masks are required inside all campus buildings at Ashland University.
