2012 Juried Student Art Exhibition

Call for Entries- "Time Will Tell" Juried Exhibition

The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University announces a national juried exhibition entitled Time will Tell- a Show of Artistic Wisdom and Experience which will feature artists at least 50 years of age residing in the United States. This exhibition will culminate in a collection of works that embody the creativity and innovation of artists ages 50 years and older at all levels of artistic endeavor. The exhibit runs from May 18 through June 15, 2012. There will be an opening reception on Friday, May 18, 2012, from 6:00 pm-7:00pm with awards announced at 6:30pm. Juror: George Kocar, is an award winning artist who has exhibited his paintings in over four hundred shows across the United States. He has a B.A. from Cleveland State University (Class of 1977) Cleveland, Ohio and a M.F.A. from Syracuse University (Class of 1983) Syracuse, New York. Works in any media accepted. All work must be original art conceived and executed solely by the artist within the last two years. . $800.00 in AWARDS. Open to artists at least 50 years of age residing in the United States. A maximum of two digital entries for $20.00 are allowed per artist. Entries must be original works in any media (2-D or 3-D), completed within the last two years. Work previously exhibited at the Coburn Gallery is not eligible. Artists are responsible for shipping/delivery costs to/from the gallery. The exhibit runs from May 18 through June 15, 2012. There will be an opening reception on Friday, May 18, 2012, from 6:00 pm-7:00pm with awards announced at 6:30pm. All entries must be postmarked by April 5, 2012. Art Saturdays Spring 2012

ART SATURDAYS
Ashland University’s Coburn Gallery and Art Club have established “Art Saturdays,” an educational and creative experience for children 7 to 15 years old. “Art Saturdays” will be offering classes on the following dates – February 25 and March 17, in the Room 346 located in the Center for the Arts on the Ashland University campus.

February 25th –The Self Portrait- Adobe Photoshop Workshop for students ages 9-15. Students will learn about Photoshop and gain new skills in creating a self portrait on the computer. Basic computer skills required. Cost is $7.00 per student. Enrollment is limited to 12 students. * 10am-12noon*

March 17th Cartooning with Cleveland Artist George Kocar-students will engage in making fun and humorous drawings. Ages 7-15. Cost is $10.00 per student. *10am-12noon*

Upcoming Exhibitions



The Coburn Art Gallery at Ashland University will be hosting an art exhibition featuring the senior theater project by Brittany Hartman of Strongsville, Ohio and The Ashland Community Arts League featuring 19 of its member’s artworks. The exhibition will open on Friday February 17 and run through February 28, 2012. The gallery will have a reception on Friday February 17 from 5:30pm-7:00pm. Admission is free and open to the public.
Brittany Hartman is a senior theater at Ashland University and her project focuses on the book The Inferno by Dante, and she has created hair and make-up designs for 8 different characters using wigs, prosthetics, and many other advanced make-up skills. Brittany then actualized all 8 designs on different models and had photo shoots to take portraits of each design. The portraits, research, her original designs, and actual make-up pieces will be on display in the Coburn Art Gallery. Brittany will be speaking briefly about her project at 6pm in the gallery. To make it a full night in Ashland, please stay afterward to see the play, Enchanted April, which is produced by the Ashland University Theatre Department. Brittany is both in the production as well as designing the hair and make-up.
The Ashland Community Arts League consists of serious artists who are intent on advancing their art careers. Many members have gallery representation throughout the state while others are still working toward this goal. The Arts League consists of painters, pencil artists, mixed media artists, works in glass, ceramics and photography. Exhibiting members are Diane Kaye

David Strub, Bob Walker, Barry Wheeler, Sally Tharp and Heidi Weller. The Coburn Gallery is excited to serve host to this local artist group and look forward to the Ashland community supporting the visual arts at the Coburn Gallery.

2012 Art Department Faculty Exhibition





Join us this afternoon for the opening reception for the 2012 Art Department Faculty Exhibition from 4:30pm-6:30pm.

The Coburn Gallery announces its upcoming art exhibition featuring the works from the Ashland University Art Department Faculty. The exhibition opens on Thursday January 12 and runs through February 10 , 2012.
The exhibition features the following art faculty: George Kocar, Priscilla Roggenkamp, Dan McDonald, Cynthia Petry, Charles Caldemeyer, Jessica Maloney, Keith McMahon, Larry Schiemann and Keith Dull.
