2015 Senior Art Exhibition Awards Announced
The 2015 Senior Art Exhibition awards were presented by Dr.
Wendy Schaller , associate professor of art, on Thursday April 9 at the Coburn
Art Gallery opening reception. Shauna Spiesz was selected as the senior art
award recipient by the AU art department faculty. Shauna’s artworks use the
human figure to explore trauma and its emotional states, struggles and empathy
in the aftermath of such events in our lives.
Shauna Spiesz –a double major -BFA with concentration in Painting and BS
in Art Education from Bay Village, Ohio.
Cecelia Maxwell was awarded honorable mention for her senior
art exhibition. Celica Maxwell is receiving a BFA with a concentration in Printmaking
and Digital Art, from Wooster, Ohio. The Senior Art Exhibition runs from April
9-May 9, 2015.

Coburn Summer Art Camps
Join the Coburn Art
Gallery on the Ashland University Campus for Summer Art Camp, which offers two one-week
sessions and several one day art experiences throughout the summer. Students
ages 4-12 will learn how to use a variety of media and experience activities
including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and sculpture. They will
develop a cultural appreciation and aesthetic awareness as they explore
different art forms as well as developing their own talent for self-expression.
Session 1 Art Camp
entitled Sculpture-Exploring the 3-D
World: activities will include investigative practices in materials,
masking building, clay work and environmental art on June 22-26 from 9am-12noon.
Session 2 runs July 13-17 and it is
entitled The Landscape-Painting and
Photography: activities include plein aire painting, exploration of
painting methods and seeing the landscape through a lens. The camp ratio is 1:7. Summer
Art Camp session is $60.00 per child. All materials are provided.
Summer Art Days for
younger artists ages 4-6 years old will be on June
18 -Minion Picassos’-Exploring the World of Robots and
July 23 WOOF ! Animals in
Art- exploring animal creations.
Each ART DAY is from 10:30am-12pm
and is $5.00 per child.
Enrollment is
limited. Registration and payment due prior to the class date.

AU Art Majors served as the jurors for the Congressional Art Competition on March 30
AU Art Majors served as the jurors for the Congressional Art Competition on March 30, where they selected five finalists for Congressman Gibbs. The winner will be announced on Friday April 10th in an award ceremony at the Coburn Art Gallery. Bravo to all of the talented high school art students that submitted artworks for consideration !
