Award Winners Announced -Ashland County High School Juried Art Exhibition
The award winners
have been announced for the Ashland
County High School Juried Art Exhibition
that will run through November 6 in the University’s Coburn Gallery.
This exhibition
offered $325.00 in awards to student artists in the Ashland County participating
school systems. The awards were announced at the opening reception of the
exhibition on October 6, 2016.
The outside juror
for exhibition was Andrius Balukas.
Balukas has studied in the School of the Art Institute
of Chicago, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the School of Visual Arts in
New York. He received a BFA in Painting and Art History through the University
of Chicago. Recently he has become an art educator through the Bachelors+
program at Ashland University. Aside from corporate graphics, he has designed
art books for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in
New York. His artwork has been shown nationally in galleries and museums,
including the Whitney Museum of Art. He is currently showing his work at Google

Student
award winners include Marguerite Mitchell from Ashland High School who was
awarded Best in Show-$100.00 for her ceramic sculpture entitled Marina. Honorable mentions -$50.00 were
awarded to Emily Stevens from Crestview High School for her mixed media work Meadow, Camryn Hall from Crestview High
School for her ceramic fiber vessel entitled Corset Basket, Skylar Hildebrandt of Mapleton High School for her
painting entitled Marilyn Monroe Retro
and Audra Gilespie of Ashland High School for her fiber work entitled Granny. Two juror mentions were awarded on
technical qualities to the following student artists: Peter Zimmerman of
Ashland High School for his sculpture assemblage entitled Insectum ex machine and Ellie Harlan of Ashland High School for her
print entitled Cat.
