The 2019 Senior Art + Design Exhibition
awards were presented by Daniel McDonald, chair of the Ashland University Art
and Design department, on Tuesday April 23 at the Coburn Art Gallery opening
reception.
Kiana Zeigler was selected as the senior exhibition art award recipient
by the AU art + design department faculty.
Kiana Ziegler, from Ashland, OH,
will graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Art, with a painting concentration, and a
Bachelor of Art in Commercial Art, with a graphic design concentration. Ziegler
is the youngest of Alma and Charles Ziegler of Ashland. She grew up in Ashland,
graduating from Ashland High School in 2015. She entered her college career as
an Honors Program Scholar, and shortly afterward, was inducted into Alpha
Lambda Delta, an honor society for academic excellence. She got the opportunity
to create a mural for the Writing Center and a portrait for the theater
production, Little Women in 2018. Off
campus, Ziegler completed the illustrations decorating the entrance to
Masterminds Escape Room and Game Library. She has completed several other
private commissions as a freelance artist.
Active in her department, Ziegler
served as the Vice President and President of Art Club. She was granted the opportunity
to travel with the Art Department to museums in Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburg,
and New York City. Ziegler was rewarded many art awards, such as the Bernini
Art Award, People’s Choice Award, Design and Illustration Award, and Best in
Show in the Juried Student Art Exhibition. She showed her artwork along with
other projects at the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Symposium.
She was on the Dean’s List 7 semesters, and received several scholarships. Upon
graduation, Ziegler plans to attend Ohio University to receive a Masters in
Fine Arts in painting.
Honorable Mention
Senior award recipient was Sage Haines.
Haines, daughter of Sue Amos and Shaun Haines, will
graduate with a Bachelor of Art in Digital Media Production as well as Commercial
Art, with a concentration in Graphic Design. She is a graduate of Big Walnut
High School in Sunbury, Ohio. She has been recognized as Ashland University’s
Intern of the Month for the Fall 2018 semester and was selected as Outstanding
Sophomore of the year for the Department of Art. In the 2018-19 school year,
she has served as President of Art Club as well as Program Director for Ashland
University’s student-run television station, AUTV-20. Haines has been exhibited
in the Juried Student Art Exhibition several times and was awarded the Digital
Art and Photography award in 2018. Haines has served as Ashland-based company
Novatex’s graphic design intern for one year and will likely continue
professional employment with the company upon graduation.
The Senior Graphic Design Exhibition runs from April
23-May 4, 2019.
